The US Open Sandcastle Competition is Saturday July 11 - 13, 2008 at Imperial Beach,CA. Below are some of the pictures of the past US Open Sandcastle Competition. Imperial Beach is the most southwesterly city in the continental United States. The beach is located approximately 14 miles south of San Diego, and 4 miles north of the Mexican border.

Guinness World Record for tallest sandcastle - Parkfest Sandcastle Committee built the tallest at 29.25 ft (8.91 m) at Falmouth, Maine, USA on June 30, 2003. They have not confirmed the Myrtle Beach, SC record of 32.5 feet in June of 2006 (June 2007 will be another look and see if another record falls).

The worlds Tallest Sandcastle measured 9.6 m (31 ft 6 in) and was created by Camp Sunshine at the Point Sebago Resort in Casco, Maine, USA, on September 1, 2007 verified by Guinnes World Records. It just be the one built at Mytrle Beach, SC that deserves the title.
